How do the flowers grow?

A few of you have asked about where we grow the flowers! Well, most of the flowers are grown in Waverly at Mom's!

Their house is in the middle of a field of 100 acres. The flowers are grown on about 1 acre behind and around their house.

The "patch" is tiny in comparison to the wheat field that surrounds it!

In the above pic you'll see lots of glads popping up.

Around most every tree and empty spot there are flowers...

Dynamo and I grow a few flowers in raised beds and around our house too! We grow zinnias, sunflowers, glads, and celosia!

Every week when it's time to get ready for the market we cut really early in the morning and then begin the process of assembling the bouquets!

My dad actually does most of the harvesting since the rest of us work full-time jobs! Yes, he works for free! And, Dynamo does too! We are so blessed to have them!

We pick the hydrangeas late after the sun goes down...

On Friday nights we come in after work to an air-conditioned garage full of flowers all separated in buckets according to their type! This makes it easier to assemble the bouquets.

After a few hours of work the bouquets are finished. They hang out in the garage cooling...

Early Saturday morning before leaving for the market, they are loaded up in the truck and off we go...



We take great care with our flowers. We deliver only the best to you, our customers. They are treated with love as we want to give you the best possible product that will last the longest.



We work hard to create a beautiful display!







You'll notice Mom's table cloths and of course we always wear matching aprons!



We like for our flowers to go straight home to you, our customers, as soon as possible. The market can be sunny and hot, so the earlier you come the better!



Market time is a fun time for everyone!



It's a time to gather as a community and see old friends and neighbors!



Yes, all of us get excited and ready for the market! Especially Charlie!





We are grateful for you, our customers, who come back week after week!



You even bring me special muffins!



And, last week an old friend of mine stopped by with her boys and her parents!



We hadn't seen each other in a long time!



Her son enjoyed the soaps!

And so did these beautiful girls...



Might I also say that those little girls would love for you to stop by and try their Dad's BBQ! Yes, their Dad is the owner of Saucy's BBQ in Petersburg! It's the best around!! At the corner of 5th and Bollingbrook Streets!

Coconuts and Citrus...yummy!

It's been a big seller this summer - Coconut Citrus Sorbet! I guess it's the fact that when you close your eyes the smell takes you to the beach!

It reminds me of a suntan lotion! I can't think of the name of the one that smells coconutty!

It's a very light fragrance! Just lovely!

So delicious...

This is definitely a summer fragrance! If you haven't tried it, now's the time to pick some up! You'll be happy you did!

Soap on a rope?

You heard it right! Yes, we've now made soap on a rope here at The Daily Scrub!



Dynamo assisted me in this adventure! I created the bars in different shapes and he strung them together for me!



We thought that customers might like to have a little sample of three different fragrances, so what better way than to link them together!



We even tagged them for you to make it all pretty! The three fragrances we used are Oatmeal, Milk, and Honey, Lavender Oatmeal, and Coffee Cake.



Don't you just love the shapes? If you need a gift for a friend that has everything, this is perfect! Three great scents that are delicious!



So, why were soaps traditionally put on a rope? Well, soaps can be slippery when wet right? So, the thought was to have a soap on a rope that you could loop over your wrist while bathing. The bar would stay securely on your wrist and not slip off in the shower or tub. Ours is more for looks than use. Simply slide off a bar when you're ready and scrub away!

Mountain Bike Monday - Ridin' the Reds

Yesterday, Dynamo and I headed out to Poco for a ride on Lakeview! It was a little hot mid-afternoon, but in the woods the temperature dropped a bit.



Dynamo suggested we check out the red sections on Lakeview 1. It had been a long time since I had attempted these. So, we hit the first one which had a couple of rock gardens. I made it through most of it, but we did stop to discuss strategy for next time!



Sorry the above pic is a little blurry! This was the rock garden on the second red section. I took a bad tumble here a while ago and hadn't been back since! It seems a lot more ridable now. I think my perspective has changed a bit. My balance is better now as well as my confidence. So, I'm much more willing and ready to take on these new obstacles.



Also on this second red there was a rocky climb. It was a little tricky so I walked it this time! See Dynamo at the top in the pic above! There was a section at the top with some roots and rocks.



I think with some practice I can make it through. The second red seemed the most challenging. I think I will start incorporating these into my rides to gain some practice and eventually I'll be able to ride it all.



And, on the third red there was a huge rock with a ramp built up! No, I'm not going to try that! But, Dynamo walked up and posed for a pic!



The third red opened up to the lake with tons of blooming lillypads! It was pretty! We were quite close to the water here! Lovely view! The third red wasn't bad at all!



And, as we were closing out our ride we saw the above snake. He was so hidden and quiet as I rode past. He was right on the edge of the trail. I was almost past him when I noticed him and hollered! Yikes! I stopped just past and walked back to snap a pic. He still didn't move. Just sunning himself! I really thought I was going to make it through without encountering any critters, but I was wrong!



The above reddish frog was hiding in a tree. Dynamo noticed him as we rode by. He was trying hard not to be photographed!

It was a good ride. A little warm, but good! We enjoyed the time together! New adventures on the reds. We'll attempt more next time! Gotta practice up! Dynamo is a good teacher! He's patient and willing to talk me through the tough spots!

To market to market...

It's that time again! Time for the market tomorrow in Petersburg!
