On Sunday, May 26, we set out for our week long vacation to St. John and St. Thomas!
We boarded the plane and were super excited to spend time together! We visited both islands on our honeymoon over 6 years ago, and decided that we wanted to return and spend a little more time in St. John this time. So, we split the time in half.
As we approached the airport in St. Thomas, we could see the blue waters and felt the air get warmer...
When we landed we had to taxi to the ferry dock, load up, and ride the 20 minute ferry to St. John!
The water was so beautiful! It was so nice to be on the ground in the warm beautiful Caribbean. While on the ferry, we could see lots of small islands here and there.
Here's our silly self portrait on the ferry...
When we arrived at St. John we simply had to walk a few steps up the street to get to our hotel!
Here it is sitting atop a lovely Italian restaurant...
The accommodations were nice, simple, and most of all clean...
Everywhere you go on St. John there are chickens roaming...
From our window in the hotel, we had a view of the church...
After getting settled we set out to explore a little.
Check out this picture...notice anything? Yes, everyone is burried above ground.
After a little exploration, we decided to check out the restaurant below our hotel. Inside there were corks all over the walls...
The next day was the first beach day! St. John is mostly made up of National Park. There is so much to explore and little time to do so. We had been told to check out Salomon Bay Beach, which was only accessible by foot along a mile + long trail. So, we decided to be adventurous and check it out.
We headed out on the Lind Point Trail. We had no idea how rocky the terrain would be, but it was a good thing I wore sneakers!
You all know how much we love parks, so it was really neat to get to experience one of our National Parks.
There were beautiful flowers that fell here and there...
The long hike was well worth the effort...
As we began to get closer we could start to see the end...
Just a little peak of what was in store...
But we had to climb down first...
And, when the trail opened up to the beach it was magnificent!
There wasn't a soul on the beach yet! Just white sand, mini palm trees, and beautiful clear water!
We were a bit hot and certainly were ready to hit the water to cool down!
We just couldn't get enough of the view...
Finally...
The water was so lovely. I just floated and sat in there for a long while!
Eventually others found their way to the beach, but it was really a quiet secluded beach. Like it was just for us to enjoy!
We camped out under our little palm and relaxed!
After a day of relaxing we had to hike back to the hotel!
We took our time getting ready and then headed out to dinner at the Waterfront Bistro.
There was a little greeter at the restaurant entrance...
Yes, the iguanas are everywhere! Don't worry...they are vegetarians! Clearly, the iguana was hungry too! The food was fantastic at the Bistro! The view was lovely! All of the restaurants in St. John are along Cruz Bay. In the evening you have the most beautiful view of the sunset on St. Thomas! So, every night we got to dinner in time to see the sunset! After dinner we walked along Cruz Bay and hunted sea glass. You can't remove any shells from the USVI, so all we did was look at those! We did find one with a heart in it. Can you see it?
It was a little overcast, but still a beautiful view of Cruz Bay!
Sunset...
So, the next day we decided to head back to our little beach! And, off we went hiking!
Dynamo spotted this hermit crab crawling on the trail! Apparently, they are everywhere too!
Back at our picture perfect beach we enjoyed the sunshine and the water!
From under our mini palm tree!
The little lizard kept checking us out...
And, there was a random chicken on the beach too! Looking for food!
On our return hike we decided to check out the overlook...
So, we left the beach and headed back.
Instead of turning to go back to the park office, we went up...
And up...
The reward of the hike was stunning...
A view of the entire Cruz Bay...
And beyond...
The breeze felt so good!
If it was a clear day we could have seen forever...
And, on our way back down we saw this little guy...
Later, we took another walk to dinner past the cemetary...
When we arrived at Zo Zo's there were Jeeps everywhere!
Apparently, that's the vehicle of choice on St. John. There are rough roads that are unpaved and Jeeps are the go-to vehicle.
Dinner at Zo Zo's was fantastic! Rumor has it that Angelina Jolie and Brad Pitt dined there! Well, the view from atop the restaurant was gorgeous and the food was even better! WOW!
Of course I took pictures of the food! Here's my shrimp...
And, Dynamo's snapper...
The next day before departing to spend the remaining part of our trip in St. Thomas, we ventured to the pebble beach about a mile from our hotel.
It was a lovely day with beautiful blue green waters!
We were in search of sea glass! We found lots of small very tumbled pieces!
Our time in St. John was great! One day I'd like to go back and hike more trails and see the sugar mill ruins and the famous petroglyphs. Next, will be our recap from our time in St. Thomas! Stay tuned!
