Sew Happy

Whenever I'm invited to a baby shower my first thought is "What can I make?" I want the new parents to have a special gift from Dynamo and I that's different than every other. One that was made with love and care and unique! Including imperfections!



So I accessorized this burp cloth with some free motion stitching! I just love that technique! It's basically creating a sewn collage! And then I made a couple of bibs for the baby girl on the way!



The rule is not to look too closely! I'm not a good hand sewer so finishing off, etc. is a little tough for me! But, that's what makes it special right?

Once our friends told us they were having a baby I started working on crocheting an afghan for them!



When they said it was a girl I added the flower!



This particular pattern was very time consuming, but not hard. It was small thread and lots of single crochets! But, it really did turn out to be beautiful I think! It was totally worth the effort!

We gifted these goodies last weekend and hope the new baby on the way loves them!

We wanted to thank our doctor for everything she did to fix Lexi. So, I got to work making an afghan for her. I wanted it to be brightly colored to remind her when she looks at it how many lives she brightens each day in her job. Even though she doesn't always deliver good news, she does try her hardest everday. It is very evident. I wanted her to know that we appreciate how special she is.



So, I was thinking bright colors and a big flower as a reminder to her to think good things even when times are bad.

Of course, we also will be giving her some soap for her and her furry kid!

Did I tell you that I love making colorful things? Working with these colors made me smile every time I picked up the afghan to work on it.

Our niece, Madison, has a birthday coming up. I hadn't crocheted her anything yet, so I sat down and tried to figure out a pattern from another afghan a lady at church had made me. I think I figured it out for the most part. It's kinda my own personalized design. I used any colors I had on hand. I wanted it bright and bold! And...I added the crocheted flower on one corner to make it really girly!

I'm so honored that Madison enjoys anything handmade by Aunt Rachel! She is always so excited and appreciative. I wanted to make her a special kid-sized afghan in her colors! So many kids don't appreciate this kind of stuff. They think it's old-lady-ish I guess!

I hope she likes it! We'll find out in February at her party!

baby afghan for a friend

One of my friends (we went to school together from middle school through high school) is having a baby soon! Momma and I got invited to her baby shower that was last Saturday.



I wanted to make her something very special. Something handmade from the heart. So, over the Christmas holiday I crocheted my fingers off to make this very soft green baby afghan! It turned out just beautiful in my opinion.
And, I was lucky enough to have consultation from my sister-in-law, Amy, on the edging. We discussed and tried a few different styles only to decide on this lovely border!


My friend was so pleased when she opened her present. She really appreciated the handmade special gift. I'm so glad I was able to make her something from the heart!
