Weekend Hike

Over the weekend it was so beautiful that we went to Poco for a hike!



Charlie Boy made some new friends too! Dogs galore at the park!



On the Beaver Lake Trail there is a water crossing where all the kids and dogs end up in the water! It's like a little beach of sorts!



And it sure was COLD!!!! But that didn't seem to bother Charlie or the other kids. I dipped my toes in and quickly put my shoes back on!



Cold is not in Charlie's vocabulary!



Look at him shake!



He loves the water as you know! Any kind, any time, any where!



And here's the standoff where he was mad that we made him continue onward...



And here's that "don't make me pose again please dad!" look...



I'm convinced that had he been off leash he would have been out there swimming...



After the lake hike we headed down to the dam...



And more posing occurred...





It was a glorious weekend! Hoping for more great weather to come!

Hiking the Crater

In all the times we've been to the Petersburg National Battlefield we've never experienced The Crater!



You can't ride your bike there, so I guess that's why! And, it's the farthest away from the other part of the park where the trails are!



It was a little chilly, but a good hike!



We stopped at the audio stations and explored the various points.



We headed down a new trail! We had noticed people walking, but never knew how they got to these parts of the park.

Charlie is always up for hiking "off road" in new places. He loves the trail. But if you think for one minute that he will jog with us on our road think again! It must be too boring for him!



He likes to go to the park. He will hike forever in a new place!



He gets so irritated when I make him pose for pics!! There's no time for this in his mind!



If it was a little warmer he would have been in this creek!



The different plaques had different stages of the battle/timeline.



The park had just built this new bridge and we were anxious to find it! Apparently, there's a new short trail section added too!

Then, we attempted a "groupie!"



And, this one Charlie couldn't resist licking mid-shot!



We do enjoy the sights and scenery at the park!



It's great to learn about things that are right under your nose!

We got in about a 3 mile hike before it got quite cold! If you're ever in the area, check out the Petersburg National Battlefield!

The Maine Event...Part Two

So, after our biking in Acadia we decided to take a tour of the park in the car and travel along the Park Loop Road. It is on this route that you can see the ocean side of the park. Breathtaking views!!!!

We started out on the route and then quickly saw the sign for Sand Beach.



Once at Sand Beach we looked for the Great Head Trail. To get to the trail we walked across the beach where we found sunbathers and crazy children in the water! This water rarely gets above 55 degrees. So, you have to be brave or crazy to go in the water. I'm not either one!



Once we found the entrance to Great Head Trail, we started our adventure.



I'm not a hiker by any means. I didn't realize this trail was "moderate." In my mind moderate wouldn't have included the things we had to do to get to the top, but once I got going it was actually fun! I just followed Dynamo's footsteps and he helped me over a few obstacles. We took our time and enjoyed the challenge!

We walked across a cool walkway too...



And, the elevation marker at the top...



But, the views were spectacular! It was worth the effort!

Did I mention that going up was the easy part?





Once back at the car we finished our evening riding some of the Park Loop Road. More beautiful scenery...







What a fantastic day filled with adventures! I had so much fun, even though I stepped out of my comfort zone and took a hike (literally)! It was so comfortable and cool and we saw things we wouldn't see in the car. I had such a wonderful evening with my hun!
