Diaper Cake Success!

You all remember the towel cake for the bridal shower right? Well, on Sunday I attended a baby shower for one of my high school friends and decided to make a diaper cake! So, here's the result!

It turned out really good if I do say so myself! Dynamo was so kind to help me tie all of the diapers together with string and assemble it. This kind of project does take multiple hands!

In the center were rolled up receiving blankets to make a strong core. Around that were almost 36 newborn diapers in two rows. Then, I tied it all together with ribbon around the base. I rolled up 3 burp cloths to add to the middle and Mortimer the Moose adorned the top! (Charlie thought Mortimer was for him since it crinkled and squeaked!) The "cake" was set on a cardboard cake plate and some tulle was wrapped around to hold it together. Not difficult, but it did take a little time to pull it all together.

The mom-to-be loved it and it was a great way to turn some useful items into something decorative and pretty! The baby boy is due in June!

baby afghan for a friend

Baby Afghan_0001_edited-1

One of my friends (we went to school together from middle school through high school) is having a baby soon! Momma and I got invited to her baby shower that was last Saturday.

I wanted to make her something very special. Something handmade from the heart. So, over the Christmas holiday I crocheted my fingers off to make this very soft green baby afghan! It turned out just beautiful in my opinion.
And, I was lucky enough to have consultation from my sister-in-law, Amy, on the edging. We discussed and tried a few different styles only to decide on this lovely border!

My friend was so pleased when she opened her present. She really appreciated the handmade special gift. I'm so glad I was able to make her something from the heart!

Fabric Collage for Baby

I attended a baby shower on Sunday and wanted to bring a handmade gift that would be unique and special. So, I decided that every baby girl needs a little blanket...

Blanket Collage

Here's a closeup...

Blanket Collage

When I was little I had a little blanket that was soft, but had a silky part too! So, on this blanket I added a strip of satin ribbon. The backing is a very soft minkie type material. The collage on the front creates texture for the baby's little fingers to rub as well.

It was a tiny blanket. Little ones just need something to hold onto, suck on, or tote around everywhere. So, it just needs to be soft and lovable. The Amy Butler base fabric was so soft! I just love her stuff! And, the baby's room is going to be green and pink, so I tried to stick with the theme!

And, every mom needs a few burp cloths to match of course...

And, the gift bag tag matched too...

Mom seemed pleased with the gift. This will be her 3rd baby, but first little girl!!

Pretty pink tags

One of Dynamo's co-workers recently ordered 30 tags for a baby shower! Can you guess what the mommy-to-be will be having?

I really like how they turned out. Clean and simple!

I used Stampin' Up!'s 2 inch circle punch, Large scalloped circle punch, 1 and 3/8 inch circle punch, very vanilla cardstock, and soft suede cardstock and ink.

The sentiment is from Close To My Heart.
